The English choral tradition in all its glory.
With Howells' Requiem and Songs of Farewell by Hubert Parry, the Nederlands Kamerkoor brings together two of the most popular English choral works in a full-length program. The popularity of both pieces lies both in their accessibility and beauty.
Both works were written in response to profound personal experiences of both composers. Howells initially wrote his Requiem in memory of soldiers killed in World War I, but the writing process took a very bitter turn when his son died of polio.Hubert Parry came to his composition when some of his students did not return from that same World War. They had died on the battlefield.
The Nederlands Kamerkoor brings these compositions together and combines them with the Tenebrae Responsories by contemporary composer James MacMillan, whose works the choir has performed before, including the beautiful Seven Last Words from the Cross.
