Cantata Celebration | Pentecost

Date
Sunday, May 28, 2023
Location
Academiehuis Grote Kerk
Performed by
Musica Michaelis and Michael's Cantor Choir conducted by Toon Hagen

On First Pentecost - the feast of the Spirit - Bach's festive cantata "O ewiges Feuer, o Ursprung der Liebe" (BWV 34) will be heard in the Michaelmas cantata celebration.
This cantata intended for Pentecost was originally written for a wedding. It is unknown for which couple, but based on the text it seems plausible that it was for the marriage of a minister. Some parts of the wedding cantata had to be rewritten for Pentecost, but three parts could be adopted, with some modifications in the text.
